Railway signaling has long been a key area of business for IKOS. Having over 10 years of experience with main line and urban railway networks, IKOS offers its expertise of onboard and trackside equipment both in France and abroad. We provide solutions to operators, consultants and to those in the industrial sector.

Signaling is vital in the railway world. It allows the rail industry to address requirements for security, reliability, and optimization of rail networks.

To meet the varied, specific, and innovative needs of our customers, our teams conduct studies, configuration, verification testing and interlocking validation/ testing. We also develop, monitor, and approve critical signaling equipment (SIL4).

Aditionally, we act as project managers and business leaders in managing interfaces and contracts, as well as participate in testing and commissioning phases. IKOS has a proven track record of managing and providing CBTC, switching, ERTMSconventional signaling solutions, and other special in-house innovations.

    ERTMS DEVELOPMENT PLAN IN BELGIUM

    SINCE 2010, INFRABEL HAS INCREASED SAFETY MEASURES ON ITS RAILWAY NETWORKS AND PLANS TO EQUIP MUCH OF ITS INFRASTRUCTURE WITH THE LATEST INTEROPERABLE ETCS SIGNALING SYSTEMS

     

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

    Infrabel plans to equip much of its infrastructure with ETCS L1-L2 equipment. IKOS has assisted the infrastructure manager in several phases, including with the usage of tools (test and simulation).

     

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    The IKOS team has participated in drafting the specifications for the ERTMS Level 2 system. It drafted the specifications (functional and technical), operating rules, and safety requirements. In parallel, IKOS also defined the test strategy and simulation tools for ongoing ERTMS L1 projects, notably on Corridor C.

    FOR MANY YEARS, IKOS HAS BEEN ASSISTING ITS CLIENTS IN IMPLEMENTING ERTMS STANDARDS

     

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

    This project is part of the deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), a European initiative aimed at harmonizing railway signaling throughout Europe. Our goal was to assist in implementing this new system in our clients’ networks throughout Europe.

     

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    As an expert in signaling, IKOS is the preferred partner for clients looking for support in integrating the ERTMS. During these projects, we were a privileged partner of the French National Rail Network RFF and the ERTMS User’s Group (EEIG). We assisted the operations managers on the LGV Est project, the pilot for ERTMS Level 2, which interfaced directly on TVM 430, as well as supporting the development of an ERTMS deployment strategy for the national rail network.

    UEVOL (URBALIS EVOLUTION) IS THE CBTC SYSTEM DEVELOPED BY ALSTOM. IT CONSISTS OF TWO SOFTWARE COMPONENTS: ONBOARD AND TRACKSIDE

     

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

    IKOS is participating in the integration of the CBTC system in the new metro line in Panama to ensure automatic control of traffic thanks to communication between the train and the control center.

     

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    Since the outset, our business expertise has primarily focused on CBTC. We are currently participating in the Panama project in the capacity of design engineering leader, supervising, determining design quality/maturity, implementing and analyzing change requests, and managing the interface with Alstom equipment and IXL ATC, ATS, etc. subsystems.

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

    MISTRAL (digital signaling, transmission, and alarm modules) is a set of modules that remotely controls the SNCF’s signal boxes, enabling programming and automatic or manual setting of train routes, as well as supervising safety devices.

     

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    IKOS assists one of the largest companies in the French railway sector by performing studies and deploying MISTRAL centralized control and signal boxes. In particular, IKOS has taken part in technical plans, part analyses, drafting common standards, configuration and setup verification, and optimizing the methodology for verifying the studies.

    IKOS PARTICIPATES IN THE TESTING AND COMMISSIONING OF A SIGNALING SYSTEM FOR LYON’S T3 TRAMWAY

     

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

    The T3 project involved upgrading cordoned-off intersections of the tramway and developing a line to serve the new Olympique Lyonnais stadium in Décines. Our client was responsible for performing the tests and commissioning the rail GIS.

     

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    Our team was responsible for performing, supervising, and documenting the interlocking and site signaling testing. The T3 project was atypical, as the system implemented was based on specific communications. The project involved creating a validation platform for simulating Control Build, which was integral to the line.

    SAET L1 METRO PROJECT

    PIONEER SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATING AND OPERATING THE LINE 1 SERVICE OF PARIS METRO

     

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

    The SAET L1 project was a world pioneer, as it fully automated line 1 of the Parisian metro system, providing driverless operation without disrupting regular service.

    The system deployed is a CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) developed in B method by Siemens.

     

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    Between 2007 and 2014, IKOS put together a large team to assist the various stakeholders in the project, the Paris transit operator RATP and the contractor Siemens, in the design (system engineering), qualification (validation, dependability) and implementation (night-time testing, configuration) phases of this ambitious project, which ended successfully with a fully automated, driverless line.
