ROLLING STOCK

ROLLING STOCK

Rail

Rolling stock is central to the railway industry. It must incorporate technical innovation on all levels, in order to meet the growing requirements for safety, efficiency, sustainability, and maintenance. IKOS assists clients in the shift from conventional rolling stock to intelligent, interactive rolling stock, in relation to passengers as well as with all other aspects of the infrastructure.

The development of increasingly sophisticated new technology in recent years, such control systems, onboard computing, and telecommunications have led to an evolution in  transportation-related careers and a rising demand for specific skills sets.

Since its creation, IKOS has continuously developed high-calibre technical expertise in all areas of train systems, all the while assisting operators, manufacturers, and suppliers.

IKOS participates in all phases of V-model conception, including its design, application, and maintenance. Additionally, IKOS is involved in innovative, large-scale industrial projects such as the design of new regional trains for the SNCF and the implementation of a preventative maintenance system in Transilien trains.

IKOS is recognized for its expertise in dependability and maintenance engineering.

    ONBOARD COMPUTERS

OUR TEAMS ARE INVOLVED IN UPGRADING THE TGV ONBOARD COMPUTER SYSTEMS

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

The aim of this project is to upgrade the software of the TGV onboard computer system to improve its reliability, implement new features (remote diagnosis, remote preparation, etc.) and ensure that it can be coupled with the various TGV series. These changes aim to facilitate TGV operation and maintenance and improve passenger comfort. It can sometimes prove difficult to respond to the current needs with technologies dating back twenty years.

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our teams are working on all facets of the project, bringing their expertise during the stages of feasibility studies, system specifications, validation, and non-regression testing. In addition, our consultants partake in the analysis of reliability and safety under hazardous situations as defined by the rolling stock acceptance specifications. We are also drafting both the amended safety file for approval and the train deployment procedure.

    ONBOARD INTERNET

OUR TEAMS ARE PARTICIPATING IN DESIGNING AND INSTALLING INTERNET ACCESS ONBOARD HIGH-SPEED TRAINS

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

The onboard internet project is aimed at equipping existing high-speed TGV trains in France with a solution that provides quick and optimized Internet access to all passengers. It uses innovative technologies to ensure service quality despite the restrictions of the high-speed environment. Another challenge of this project is integrating this new system into the limited space of the TGV cars, all the while minimizing any service interruptions.

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our teams are participating in all aspects of the project and bring their expertise to the feasibility studies and general system design. They prepare specifications and technical analysis for tenders, integrating electronic systems, verifying and validating RAMS studies from onboard equipment suppliers, and making analyses on reliability and safety under hazardous situations as defined by the tender and rolling stock acceptance specifications. We are also involved in the drafting of the amended safety file for approval purposes.

    MI09, THE MODERN RER

IN ORDER TO ASSESS AND DEMONSTRATE THE LEVEL OF SAFETY OF THE NEW MI09, OUR TEAMS PARTICIPATED IN THE PREPARATION OF ALL SAFETY DOCUMENTATIONS NECESSARY

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

In recent years, the RER A line suffered constant interruptions and delays due to ageing rolling stock and rising passenger numbers. To remedy this problem without delay, the RER Line A required urgent modernization. The MI09 is included in this modernization project.

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Thanks to our knowledge of the standards (such as EN 50126, 50128, 50129, etc.), as well as the dependability procedures of the rail industry, we were able to implement the correct justification documents and produce accurate analyses of safety threats.

Working with various multi-disciplinary teams, both internal (engineering, maintenance, methods, projects, quality, etc.) and external (suppliers, operators, etc.), we collaborated with our client’s teams to develop the appropriate safety documentation for MI09 approval.

    REGIO 2N NEXT-GENERATION EMU

WE ARE WORKING ON INNOVATIVE AND HIGH-TECH PROJECTS, CONSTANTLY REAFFIRMING OUR EXPERTISE IN THE RAILWAY INDUSTRY

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Regio 2N project aims to design a double-deck EMU for TER or inter-city services. The technically innovative architecture of this EMU assures an optimal use of on-board space as it is fully electric and environmentally friendly. The service was inaugurated in 2014 and will serve many areas across the national rail network, including Aquitaine, Brittany, Centre, Picardy, Rhône-Alpes, and others.

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

We are working in all areas of this project related to the rolling stock, such as testing, dependability, engineering (electricity, automation, on-board electronics), and validation/commissioning for the certification of all necessary equipment (TCN and TCMS).

    KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER

THE AIM OF THE STUDY IS TO MANAGE THE TRANSFER OF KNOWLEDGE BETWEEN INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENTS

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

In order to prepare for the opening of the rail equipment maintenance market to all other possible competitors, the engineering activities of the SNCF’s Equipment Division was redeployed to key component engineering (train subsystem for rail service safety).

In the Engineering Division, IKOS was in charge of managing the transfer of bogie engineering expertise in order to clear performance improvement axes.

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

IKOS was responsible for preparing the project management plan, using the WBS method (Work Breakdown Structure). We first audited the technical centers transferring the bogie engineering activities. We then analyzed the characterization and quantification of elements to be transferred. Finally, utilizing the feedback received, we drafted the complete plan for knowledge transfer.
